dc.description.abstract In recent decades scientists have been showing more interest in researching how a human body changes while growing during childhood. It is obvious that prevention of functional and structural bodily disorders have to start in early school years. So far it is not fully explored why such changes occur during this period of life. The correct evaluation of the development of bone and muscle structure and of cardiovascular system, the early diagnosis of any deviations and employment of adequate measures of prevention of structural and functional changes are very important. The aim of the study is o investigate the correlation between structural and functional parameters of a growing body. Objectives: 1.To evaluate changes of structural and functional parameters in children and adolescents according to age. 2.To evaluate changes of structural and functional parameters in children and adolescents according to gender. 3.To determine age related correlations among structural and functional body parameters in children and adolescents. 4.To determine correlations among structural and functional body parameters in children and adolescents related to gender. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and twenty four school age children (aged 7-18 years) participated in the study. Methods: The bicycle (VEM) veloergometry test, ECG, ABP, HR measurements, dynamometry, cirtometry, scoliometry. Conclusions. Thoracic kyphosis in boys decreased with age. Parameters of body posture in frontal plane did not change significantly with age. Muscle strength increased in boys and girls with age; the increase in strength was, especially manifest in muscles which elevate arm in frontal plane and pectoral muscles: the strength increased 4 times. The statistics of parameters which outline the dynamics of cardiovascular functions varied significantly according to child’s age (HR, SBP0 and SBPmax, JT, JT/RR and other parameters). The increase of Sv index with age was statistically significant. The differences between genders in fat-free mass index became distinct only between the eldest children groups.Distinct differences of VEM manifested themselves between the middle age children groups. Many correlations were displayed among structural and functional parameters according to age. The greatest amount of correlations manifested themselves among anthropometric and cardiovascular parameters in middle-age girls and in the youngest boys. Many correlations among cardiovascular parameters and height were displayed in the eldest boys group. A number of correlations among anthropometric and muscle strength parameters increased with age. A number of correlations between posture and cardiovascular parameters decreased with age. Analyzing correlations among structural and functional parameters according to gender, we discovered many correlations between anthropometric parameters and cervical lordosis index in the eldest girls group. The cervical lordosis index correlated positively with body mass and fat-free mass indexes in this group. In the youngest girls’ group sacral angle index correlated positively with height and fat-free mass index. The sacral angle index correlated positively with cardiovascular system recovery parameters in the youngest boys group as opposed to the youngest girls group, in which there were no such correlations. The aforementioned correlations appeared in the older girls group and disappeared in the older boys group. The most frequent correlations displayed in boys were those among anthropometric and dynamometric parameters. An especially great number of correlations between cardiovascular parameters, derived during bicycle ergometry test, and anthropometric indices manifested themselves in middle age girls group .
